Summer Teen Program

This summer, Humane Colorado is offering our Summer Teen Program again! This program is open to 16 &17 year old’s interested in volunteering throughout the summer months.

The Summer Teen Program provides an opportunity to earn service hours and valuable experience working with animals while supporting Humane Colorado during the busy summer months when our animal numbers are highest.

Help provide essential care for homeless cats and dogs by ensuring they have a clean, comfortable kennel as part of the Animal Care team!

Summer Teen Program Requirements

Applications open March 20th, 2025

Application deadline is Thursday, April 24th

Applicants must be 16 or 17 years old as of May 1st.

If accepted to the program, applicants must:

  • Complete online registration form
  • Watch the Summer Teen Program 101 training video
  • Attend one required hands-on training class at the location where you’ll be volunteering
    • Trainings at both Buddy Center and Malone Center will take place the weekends of May 10th and May 17th
  • Commit to completing at least 36 hours of volunteering during the program. Volunteers can sign up for three-hour shifts. Shifts are available seven days a week!

*If you are not able to make this commitment, consider exploring our Foster program as an alternative.  

At the end of the summer, volunteers who complete the minimum hour commitment:

  • May request a certificate and/or a letter of recommendation
  • Have the option to continue volunteering in Animal Care or other roles (requires additional training)
  • Are invited to an end of summer pizza party
  • If volunteers participate for a second summer, they may be offered a leadership role in the program
