Equine Surrender Admissions Form

Horses must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission:

  • Halter Broke
  • Riding horse or riding candidate
  • Body condition score between 3 and 7
  • No clinical signs of disease
  • Must be located in Colorado

Horses will be required to pass a basic behavior field test prior to acceptance. Evaluations include: a veterinarian exam, plus, catching, haltering, picking up feet, bucking, biting, rearing, kicking, striking, pulling back, running off, pawing, cinchy, cold backed, spooking, head tossing, charging, weaving, loading into a trailer, and an overall behavior assessment.

Conditions that will be accepted

  • Abnormal teeth wear (within reason)
  • Warts and plaques on ears
  • Insect irritation on/in ears
  • Dirty sheath
  • Bacterial infection to the sheath
  • Nutritional dermatopathies (dull hair coats)
  • Rain rot
  • Girth gall (saddle sores)
  • Thrush
  • Clubfoot

Conditions that will NOT be accepted:

  • Lameness (hoof, joints or tendons)
  • Laminitis
  • Severe quarter cracks
  • Neurological issues
  • Eye problems (case by case)
  • Heart conditions
  • Upper respiratory tract problems
  • Lower respiratory tract problems
  • Abdomen/gastrointestinal tract problems
  • Genitourinary problems
  • Degenerative joint disease (ringbone or fractures)
  • Physically disabled
  • Severe dental problems
