Volunteer Appreciation Week: Notable Newcomer

Volunteering at an animal shelter is a great way for future veterinarians to get hands-on experience caring for animals in a variety of circumstances. From gaining a better understanding of shelter medicine and pet behavior to advancing career goals, volunteers can get a feel for medically caring for animals.

At 17 years old, our notable volunteer newcomer, Caitlynn, started her volunteer journey off with a bang! In 8 months, she’s served over 1,200 hours as an Enrichment volunteer, providing stress relief and play to our pet population at Buddy Center, and as a Surgery Support Assistant volunteer, providing valuable assistance to medical staff when animals are at their most vulnerable at the Leslie A. Malone Center.

Caitlynn aspires to become a veterinarian and is using her time at Humane Colorado to learn all she can ahead of continuing her education. We love to hear about young people interested in pursuing a career in animal welfare, especially in a veterinarian capacity

! In recent years, it’s estimated that there are 2.5 million companion animals in Colorado with only 3,800 practicing vets to provide care. This is why our work, providing low-cost veterinary services to the community at the Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur, is crucial.

Caitlynn’s commitment to and care for shelter animals shines in everything she does at Humane Colorado.
