Outdoor exercise is a critical part of care for dogs in animal shelters. It not only provides a necessary potty break, but it also gives the pups a chance to interact and play with people, socialize with other dogs, and enjoy the Colorado sunshine! We learn a lot from the volunteers who walk our in-shelter dogs through the Friendship Circle behind the Leslie A. Malone Center. Their detailed reports of activity, reactivity, and play give us a better idea of what type of home could be the best fit for a particular dog. This Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are highlighting the volunteers who walk, play, and provide outdoor enrichment to our dog population. Here are some of our favorite reports from volunteers on dogs currently available for adoption at the Leslie A. Malone Center in Denver. Miklo “Milo is a gentle dog with a sweet disposition.” “Total chiller. Easy to leash and walk. Likes pets and chasing balls in the play yard. Great dog.” “OMG what an absolute pleasure to walk. He is completely unbothered by anything and everything.” “Milko is a sweet boy and deserves a good home. Xena “Xena is happy to go on a walk and has a very pleasant demeanor. Not treat motivated, though.” “Big lab! Plays fetch, loved liver treats!” “Excited to see me and was easy to leash. She is a strong walker!” “Xena is a big, happy girl. She is housetrained as well! She walks with anything from no pull to strong pull when she is interested in something. She is affectionate and loves butt rubs.” Gage “Very easy going and pleasant guy to walk.” “Interested in other dogs, but not reactive” – some walkers report he whines a bit to meet friends on walks. “Gage was a perfect gentleman on our walk today.” “Gage is very sweet. Easy to leash and did not pull at all!” Cookie “Cookie enjoyed lots of treats! She is sweet and affectionate.” “Cookie was excited to see me, but it’s a very calm energy.” “Good walker, no pulling. Just wanted to hang out with me. Likes treats and attention.” Brownie “Love Brownie so much! He is a joy to walk, easy to leash, and doesn’t pull. He loves to sniff and did enjoy treats. He needs a loving home.” “Super chill when we got outside. Just wanted to roam around.” “Sweet gentle boy. Not reactive.” Interested in walking shelter dogs? Become a volunteer!
