DENVER, Colo., (Aug. 12, 2024) – The Dumb Friends League is excited to once again team up with NBCUniversal Local for the highly anticipated tenth annual Clear the Shelters™ adoption and donation drive. Running from August 10 to September 10, this nationwide event is dedicated to helping animals get out of shelters and into homes. Clear the Shelters™ has made a significant impact since its debut in 2015, resulting in the adoption of more than one million pets across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The Dumb Friends League is proud to participate in this year’s campaign, offering exclusive adoption deals and hosting fun events that the community can attend, all with the goal of getting 1,000 pets adopted during the month-long campaign. In the last ten years, thousands of pets have been adopted from the Dumb Friends League during the annual Clear the Shelters™. Mary Sarah Fairweather, Vice President of Operations at the Dumb Friends League, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “Clear the Shelters is an amazing opportunity to showcase the wonderful pets in our care,” she said. “With ongoing challenges like overcrowding in shelters, this event is an essential opportunity for our community to connect with animals that are ready to bring joy and companionship into their lives.” To mark the occasion, special activities and adoption specials will be held at the Denver and Castle Rock locations on September 6-7. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including engaging with community vendors, like Kona Ice and Hill’s Pet Nutrition, playing games, printing custom tags for your new furry family member, discovering volunteer opportunities, and finding the perfect pet to adopt. During the extended adoption period from September 6-7, the Dumb Friends League will offer “Name Your Price” adoption fees across all its shelter locations for pets over one year of age, making it a perfect time to bring a new furry friend into your home. About Clear the Shelters Clear The Shelters™ / Desocupar Los Albergues® is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign that is spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear the Shelters events. NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than a half million pets finding new homes.
