Humane Colorado joins NBCU Local’s “Clear the Shelters” pet adoption & donation campaign this August.

Nationwide Initiative Has Led to Nearly 1.2 Million Adoptions & Raised More Than $5 Million Since 2015

DENVER, Colo., (July 30, 2025) – Humane Colorado has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 11th annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign scheduled for Aug. 1 to 31.

As a part of the nationwide initiative, NBC and Telemundo stations partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare. Since its 2015 inception, Clear the Shelters has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes and raised more than $5 million for participating shelters and rescues.

Humane Colorado invites the public to kick off Clear the Shelters on Saturday August 2nd from 10am – 5pm at the Leslie A. Malone Center in Denver with food trucks, giveaways, and other festivities. Humane Colorado will also waive adoption fees on cats and dogs 1 year and older, and all small mammals at all of our shelter locations, as well as offer 50% off a companion horse with the adoption of any equine at Humane Colorado’s Harmony Equine Center from August 2-11.

Additionally, for the month of August, Humane Colorado is asking the public to “Share the Care” with a donation that will support the pets that come through Humane Colorado’s doors in need of compassionate care every single day. Donations help Humane Colorado provide vital veterinary care, behavior program support, community resources, humane education, enrichment, and safety and nourishment for pets in their care.

“The average cost of an animal’s journey at Humane Colorado is $808 dollars, and with tens of thousands of pets we care for each year, this cost adds up and stretches our resources,” said Katie Parker, Chief Operating Officer at Humane Colorado. “We depend on community support to continue providing comprehensive and critical programs and services to pets in need in our community.”

Every person who adopts a pet during Clear the Shelters will be given a goody bag compliments of Hill’s Pet Nutrition and will be entered into a drawing to win a gift basket filled with:

  • Two round-trip United Airlines airfare tickets to any North American destination in 2025
  • A dog boarding gift card from City Bark
  • New Humane Colorado swag and apparel
  • Other pawsome treats!

“When it comes to pet adoption, we believe there’s a perfect match for everyone,” said Parker. “Whether you’re ready to open your home and heart to a new family member or want to support pets in need with a donation, now is the perfect time.” Many pets are still waiting to be adopted, and donations allow us to provide them with care and nourishment during their time in the shelter.”
