It’s a Home Sweet Homecoming, thanks to our friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition! From September 30 – October 4, 2026, we’re waiving adoption fees for our BIG boys and girls – dogs over 1 year and 60lbs. Want to meet a few, and learn why we love them? Pachuco – Heart of the Home Team Pachuco is one of our long-stay dogs at Leslie A. Malone Center. This handsome one-year-old Pit Bull Mix is a staff favorite. He can be shy when you first meet him, but once he’s comfortable, he’s the sweetest, playful pup, ready to impress you with a “sit” for a treat. Pachuco puts the “pep” in pep rally, bringing joyful jumps and happy tail wags! Pachuco also impressed our volunteer during his doggy day trip with his calm demeanor and exceptional listening skills. See Pachuco in action on TikTok! Bella – Valedictorian Bella recently came to Humane Colorado with five nursing puppies. Now that her puppies have weaned, she is ready to take the spotlight in your heart. Bella is a friend to everyone she meets, except for cats. Bella likes to be in good company and sings her sorrows when she’s alone for too long, so she may make a great friend for a retiree, for someone who works from home, or if you adore bringing your pup to enjoy every adventure Colorado has to offer. Meet Bella at our Buddy Center in Castle Rock! Penn – Easiest to Walk Our dog walking volunteers have called Penn cool, calm, and collected on a leash. Penn is a handsome 5-year-old American Bulldog mix ready to win your heart. As a sensitive guy, Penn has exhibited some signs of fear in the shelter, but a little sweet talk, gentle pets, and a treat (or two!), helps soothe his spirit so you can see what a great guy he is. Meet Penn in one of our Denver shelter’s play yards! Arena – Most Athletic Arena is a 7-year-old German Shepherd ready to make your home hers. Like most German Shepherd’s, Arena enjoys an active lifestyle and wants to be a part of the action. She is communicative, so you will always know when an enriching walk or favorite activity is needed, and she will graciously thank you for your time with affectionate behavior. She is social with other dogs, especially if they have a similar energy level and are ready to frolic, so a home with a canine companion may help keep her engaged and happy. Arena has been known to chase cats, so a feline-free home is best for you. Head down to our Buddy Center to adopt your next adventure buddy, Arena! Shylo – Everyone’s favorite cutie with a booty Shylo is a loveable, 8-year-old Labrador Retriever mix available for adoption at Buddy Center. Shylo enjoys everything life has to offer and would make a great companion for your next hike, especially if can splash around in the closest body of water. Shylo also loves food – maybe a little too much. He has been known to exhibit signs of resource guarding in the past. Because of this, Shylo may do well as the only pup in your home, or with boundaries in place between dogs at mealtimes. Shylo is a lover boy, ready to make every day with you the best day ever. Penelope – Best all-around dog Penelope is a sweet, 6-year-old Rottweiler with a big heart. Penelope experienced onset blindness and is still learning how to navigate her new life with limited vision, but that doesn’t stop her from smiling at everyone she hears. Penelope likes to be close to her people. She will hold your hand as you relax together and eagerly sits for a treat. She knows more commands – in German, no less! Her English is getting better, too! Penelope loves to make friends, adores treats, and will lean into every pet before giving you her tummy for the good belly rubs. If you want a dog who will spoil you as much as you spoil her, Penelope is your girl. BONUS – Two for the price of none! Meet the bonded pairs included in the Home Sweet Homecoming promotion! Kooper & Hunter – Homecoming Kings Kooper (6 years old) and Hunter (7 years old) are purebred Perfection – they have the look of a little bit of everything (classic mutts) and the sweetest personalities to boot! They love living life together and will be the dreamiest pair of dogs you will ever welcome home. These boys are the star football players, ready to catch whatever you throw at them. While a little shy in the shelter, we believe these two will be the kings of your heart and home, side by side from playtime to naptime. Meet Kooper and Hunter at our Leslie A. Malone Center today! River & Ashlee – Homecoming QueensPupdate: Adopted! Ashlee is a 10-year-old Lab; River is a 6-year-old Siberian Husky, and they share a bond like no other. Coming from a loving home experiencing major life-altering events, these girls come fully trained and ready to be trusted to free-roam your home. Both girls are affectionate, enjoying tummy rubs and human companionship. They love long walks on the trails, chew toys – especially bones! – and tasty treats. Ashlee can be a little shy around men initially but warms up quickly. Other than that, our known history suggests they would do great in a home with kids, other dogs, and cats!
