The Lotte Jehlik Volunteer of the Year Award acknowledges a volunteer who enhances Humane Colorado’s mission by making contributions above and beyond their regular volunteer responsibilities. This year, we are honored to announce that Sherry P. is the Humane Colorado Lotte Jehlik Volunteer of the Year for 33 years of above and beyond service to animals! A steadfast volunteer and supporter since 1991, Sherry has served more than 34,000 hours. Often in the shelter multiple times a week, Sherry serves in one of our most physically demanding and crucial volunteer roles – supporting animal care by cleaning dog kennels. In the 2024 calendar year alone, Sherry spent close to 500 hours cleaning kennels to ensure our pups have a comfortable stay at the shelter. But Sherry doesn’t just clean, she treats every animal like they are her own pet, taking them out first thing in the morning for extra outdoor time. Sherry’s support is unwavering and her dedication to a more humane Colorado is evident in her philanthropy. As a woman of many trades, Sherry is always ready and willing to join volunteer and donor events, info sessions, town halls, and petition drives. In fact, Sherry gathered the most signatures in support of Proposition 129 to expand access to veterinary care for pet owners across Colorado! We are humbled by her wholehearted approach to volunteering. Sherry’s hours accumulate to over $1 million dollars in service. And it doesn’t come close to the true value of her contributions to Humane Colorado. Interested in working with animals as a part of our volunteer program?
