What is Tales for Tails?
Tales for Tails is an opportunity for students (3rd grade – high school) to practice their reading skills in a judgement-free zone while also helping animals at our shelter get the enrichment and socialization they need. This 1 hour program includes a lesson about Humane Colorado, information about how dogs show us they are comfortable or anxious, and 30 minutes of reading time with the dogs in our care. For everyone’s safety, participants will stay just outside of the dog’s kennels. Experienced and enthusiastic staff and volunteers will guide your child through this fun program.
What should my child bring? Students must bring their own book. Students must wear closed toed shoes.
Participation Requirements Ability to be comfortable in a sensory rich environment (loud sounds, bright lighting, etc.) for the duration of the program as well as the ability to participate in the entire 60-minute program without a bathroom break. Due to the short nature of the program, a bathroom break is not built in.
